Redesign of a Compact Apartment in Istanbul
This project involved the redesign of a 42.35-square-meter apartment located on the 21st floor, unit 446, of a residential tower in Istanbul, Turkey. The primary goal was to create a modern, functional, and harmonious space that addresses spatial limitations while providing a sense of comfort and aesthetic appeal.
Redesign of the Living and Bedroom Areas
The solid wall separating the bedroom and living room was removed and replaced with a movable glass partition measuring 3.5 meters by 2.72 meters. This partition, paired with a curtain for added privacy, allows users to customize the separation or integration of spaces as needed. The design maximizes natural light flow and enhances flexibility, creating a more open and adaptable environment.
Optimization of the Kitchen
The kitchen was redesigned with improved cabinetry and a reconfigured countertop layout to enhance movement circulation and create a better visual connection with the living area. These updates were implemented to meet the daily functional needs of the users while maintaining a seamless and efficient design.
Material Selection and Color Palette
The project’s color palette draws inspiration from Istanbul’s native herons and incorporates warm, natural tones. The living and bedroom areas feature gray and ash-toned carpets, providing both warmth and comfort while reinforcing visual continuity between spaces. Additionally, patterned rugs are used to subtly distinguish the boundaries between the bedroom and living room, offering a refined spatial separation without physical barriers.
Lighting and Furniture
Lighting was designed with adjustable ceiling-mounted spotlights, enabling users to modify the intensity and direction of light to suit their needs. The selected furniture includes a three-seater sofa, a modern TV wall, a bed, and minimalistic yet functional wardrobes, all chosen to enhance both aesthetics and usability.

This project exemplifies successful redesign within a compact space by incorporating flexible elements, optimized layouts, and thoughtful material choices. The combination of lighting, colors, and furniture transforms this apartment into a modern and unique environment, elevating urban living to a higher standard.
